Finish the eye over the bick.

Close up by tapping lightly around the outside of the eye and test by trying it over a piece of 1¼" diameter round bar.

Before forming the eye, the acute bend at the root of the loop must be strengthened by adding extra metal in the form of a small wedge, made from ⅜" round bar, welded the rod.
